Scott is Professor Emeritus of Biostatistics at the University of Washington, having retired from active teaching on July 1, 2017. Scott's educational background includes a Bachelor's degree in Physics, a Masters degree in Computer Science and a Medical degree, all from the University of Virginia. He completed his Ph.D. in Biostatistics at the University of Washington.

These webpages are primarily used to provide access to various materials (handouts, homeworks, video recordings, R software) for the formal courses Scott has taught at the University of Washington in recent years. Many of these materials are being re-packaged as modules for informal "Online Courses" .

Also included on these webpages are technical reports and software related to his research interests in distribution-free regression analysis, primarily using classification and regression trees.

Software, short course presentations, and technical reports related to his interests in clinical trials, sequential testing, and survival analysis are now maintained on the RCTdesign.org website, which is maintained by Scott and a number of collaborators.
